Description
Here's a wonderful flowering plant for those shady areas in your yard. There's nothing quite like a drift of Columbine at the edges of a wooded area. They will truly brighten your spring! Aquilegia chrysantha is native to the mountains of New Mexico and Arizona, and the Trans-Pecos in Texas. They are rare everywhere. In Texas they are always found in association with springs and waterfalls, but never in standing water. The National Wildflower Research Center has this variety of Columbine planted in the shade in their patio area, and they are very happy there! Just give them well-drained soil, rich in organic matter, and keep them moist.
