Knee to thigh high warm-season bunchgrass. Commonly found in dappled shade of wooded limestone canyons under mesquites, oaks and urban side yards. Abundant in central Texas. We've observed many small songbirds such as grasshopper sparrows and painted buntings foraging on the seeds in our fields. These native millet-type seeds are fantastic source of nutrition for small mammals too.
