Lindheimers indigo, Indigofera lindheimeriana, is a shrubby plant with a pink to salmon colored bloom. The pinnately compound leaves typical of the pea family are a grayish green and are soft to the touch. This shrubby native can grow from 2 to 6 feet in height and can be found along the gravel bars and flood plains of our Texas hill Country Rivers. It is a great riparian plant helping to add stability in these easily flooded areas. Lindheimers indigo is the larval food source of the Reakerts Blue, Grey Hairstreak, and Dogface Butterflies. bloom photo by Joe Marcus at Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center
