Galleta
Pleuraphis jamesii
Found growing from Texas and Oklahoma, westward towards California, this tough drought resistant perennial warm season grass is commonly found in heavy clay or loam soils growing sometimes alone or in mixed stands with Black Grama. Overgrazing has killed off much of this highly palatable grass throughout its native range. This 18-36 inch grass is an excellent choice for erosion control or creating more diverse grass/rangelands in dry western ecosystems.
